Hotel occupancy is projected to reach 90 percent during the August peak. The industry is focusing on developing in-depth products such as parent-child tours and study trips to meet market demand.

In the first half of 2025, Macau’s tourism sector demonstrated a steady recovery trend. Cheung Kin Chung, president of the Macau Hoteliers & Innkeepers Association, expects this growth momentum to carry through the second half of the year. With an increase in visitor arrivals and a balanced hotel supply-demand ratio, summer tourist numbers are expected to surpass those of last year.

August is expected to be the peak month, with an overall hotel occupancy rate of around 85 percent, potentially reaching 90 percent during peak periods.

In an interview with Chinese-language media, Cheung noted that despite the market rebound, the changing external economic environment, evolving tourist spending patterns, and rising competition from neighboring regions still pose challenges for Macau’s tourism industry. He emphasized the need to continuously improve service quality and diversify visitor sources. During the summer, the focus will be on developing in-depth cultural tourism products, such as parent-child tours and study trips. In the second half of the year, efforts will shift toward optimizing the tourism supply, strengthening regional cooperation, and promoting “Tourism+” cross-sector integration to attract more international visitors.

According to data from the Statistics and Census Service, Macau’s average hotel occupancy rate in the first five months of 2025 reached 89.2 percent, representing a year-on-year increase of 5 percentage points. The total number of guests was 6.004 million, a slight decrease of 2.1 percent, with the average length of stay remaining at 1.7 nights. During the same period, inbound visitor arrivals totaled 16.327 million, marking a 15.2 percent year-on-year increase.
