ZAPE merchants petition government over satellite casino closures, call for lifeline

More than 70 merchants from Macau’s ZAPE district, home to several satellite casinos, have signed a petition urging government intervention as they face what they describe as their most severe business crisis in over two decades, according to online news outlet All in Media.

The appeal comes as gaming operators prepare to close satellite casino facilities by the end of the year that many local businesses rely on for foot traffic.

Representatives from over 20 affected businesses held a meeting on Sunday, calling on gaming operators to delay the closures and fulfil their corporate social responsibilities. One long-time merchant stated that the government had severely underestimated the economic impact of the satellite casino closures.
