The actor’s daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, confirmed to the Associated Press that her father had been battling throat cancer since 2014 and that he died on Tuesday from pneumonia, surrounded by family and friends.
Kilmer was the youngest actor ever accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School. He made his film debut in 1984 with the spy film “Top Secret!”, followed by the comedy “Real Genius” in 1985. He would later show his comedic skills in films such as “MacGruber” and “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”.
