Russians against Russians. Belgorod enters “anti-terrorist state”

While Kiev ensures that its troops have made some advances on Bakhmut’s flanks and that they still maintain control of a small part of the city, Russian volunteers equipped with armored vehicles made an incursion into Russian territory in the Belgorod region, with the announced objective of ” liberate the territory” from the Kremlin and to create a security strip for the Ukrainian territory in the region north of Kharkiv.

The governor of the Belgorod region accused a group of Ukrainian saboteurs of entering Russian territory on Monday morning and that the Russian military, border services and intelligence services were “taking the necessary measures to eliminate the enemy”. Hours later, Vyacheslav Gladkov announced that the region had been placed in a state of anti-terrorism, which implies restrictions on movement and the suspension of activities involving dangerous substances. But both the Ukrainian authorities and the videos made available by the protagonists themselves point to an action carried out by two groups of Russian militants in opposition to the regime of Vladimir Putin: the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Legion of Freedom for Russia.

Details are still scarce, but everything points to the gunmen having forcibly entered the Kozinka border post, northwest of the city of Kharkiv, the second largest in Ukraine. Making use of armored vehicles – which may have been taken at the border – they claim to have taken control of the villages of Kozinka and Gora-Podol and reports of fighting in Grayvoron. According to the governor of the region, there were eight wounded to mourn, three of them at the border post.
