Russia to put nuclear weapons in Belarus despite criticism

The Kremlin said on Monday that Western criticism would not prompt a change in Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announced plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in neighboring Belarus.

“It is clear that such a reaction cannot influence Russian plans,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

On Saturday, remember, Putin announced that Moscow intends to install “tactical” nuclear weapons in the territory of Belarus, an allied country located on the doorstep of the European Union.

“There is nothing new here: the United States has been doing this for decades. They have their tactical nuclear weapons positioned for a long time on their allies’ territory,” Putin said in an interview broadcast on Russian television. “We decided to do the same”, he added, stating that this decision was taken after an agreement signed with the Belarusian government.
