China’s trade minister promises support for Macau’s convention and exhibition sector

Strengthening cooperation and boosting the economic development of Macau were the main themes of the meeting that the Chief Executive held yesterday in Beijing with the Vice-Minister of Commerce, Wang Shouwen.

Ho Iat Seng pointed out that the convention and exhibition sector represents one of the most important industries in the proper diversification of Macau’s economy and added that, after the pandemic passed, it gradually resumed its activities. In this sense, he said that the government is actively organising two major events, for which he hopes to receive the opinions of the Minister of Commerce and thus contribute to increasing their organisational quality. Wang Shouwen assured that the Ministry of Commerce will provide full support to Macau to help strengthen the development of the convention and exhibition industry.

On the construction of the Guangdong-Macao Deepening Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, Ho Iat Seng said that Macau companies could take advantage of the space to create more local brands, especially with regard to the development of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which not only has a certain base but also better encourages the vitality of the industry, thus creating its own brand. The Minister of Commerce promised to work on attracting trade and capital to the Co-operation Zone.

The Chief Executive also appreciated the guarantee of stable supply of essential goods under the support of the Ministry of Commerce, which helped maintain the normal operation of the local market.
