Creative Cities of Gastronomy from around the World will participate in the Gastronomy Fest

Macao is hosting the “International Cities of Gastronomy Fest, Macao” from June 14 to 23. The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) invites residents and tourists to taste and learn how to cook typical dishes from all over the world, with music and dance shows in the mix. On an unprecedented scale, the Fishermen's Wharf will be transformed into a unique culinary experience for 10 days, with 100 stalls and gastronomic showcases, representing Creative Cities of Gastronomy from all over the world.

Never have so many Creative Cities of Gastronomy been represented in Macao as they will be between June 14 and 23 at the Fishermen’s Dock. MGTO is inviting representatives around the world to take part in the “International Cities of Gastronomy Fest, Macao”, to share with residents and tourists the best that their gastronomy has to offer.

According to Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of MGTO, this gastronomic fest is an opportunity to strengthen the exchange platform between the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN). On the other hand, MGTO intends to use the “universal language” of gastronomy to strengthen Macao’s “connection to the world”.

The first edition of the Fest will have a bit of everything, with three main highlights: International Gastronomy Promenade, City of Gastronomy Showcase, and the International Gastronomy Forum – we’ll cover the latter next week.

International Gastronomy Promenade

Around 100 gastronomic stalls will be part of the Roman Amphitheatre Square and the Legend Boulevard for 10 days, at the Fishermen’s Wharf. The focus of the International Gastronomy Promenade will be Asian food, with representatives from six of China’s Creative Cities of Gastronomy (Chengdu, Shunde, Yangzhou, Huai’an, Chaozhou and Macao) and three from Asia (Thailand’s Phuket, Malaysia’s Kuching and the Philippines’ Iloilo), offering visitors typical and traditional experiences from these destinations.

Taking advantage of the fact that Macao is considered an international city of gastronomy, stalls will be occupied by local restaurants, with Cantonese, Portuguese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Korean and Southeast Asian food. So that the public can enjoy everything they are entitled to in comfort, 700 seats will be available for meals on site.

The International Gastronomy Promenade doesn’t stop there. To accompany the gastronomic feast, there will be an area dedicated to games and a bar by the river. Food always tastes better with music and dancing, so there will be plenty of that, including Portuguese folklore.

“City of Gastronomy Showcase” was held at the Venetian Macao last year.

City of Gastronomy Showcase

The Legend Boulevard’s main stage will belong to the City of Gastronomy Showcase. Chefs from Creative Cities of Gastronomy from all over the world, will be giving cooking demonstrations over the ten days. Techniques and knowledge will be shared so that you can then try at home. At the end, you’ll even be able to take part in tasting sessions.
