MGTO and SCMP collaborate to promote tourism in Macao

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the South China Morning Post (SCMP) began their collaboration last year through articles and videos, including the promotion of Macao to high school students in Hong Kong through the Young Post school network.

The cooperation program, titled “Unveiling Macao: A Journey of Discovery for Students 2023-2024,” consists of three parts: collecting short articles, study trips, and publishing selected articles. The Young Post invited candidates to share their personal experiences and expectations regarding the student trips to Macao. High school students from Hong Kong were selected to participate in a study trip to Macao and write articles following the trip.

Hong Kong students explore the history and culture of Macao

On February 3, approximately 50 high school students from 28 schools in Hong Kong participated in the “Unveiling Macao: A Journey of Discovery for Students 2023-2024” excursion.

During the trip, the students visited iconic historical and cultural sites such as the Historic Centre of Macao, Na Tcha Temple, Ruins of St. Paul’s, Macao Museum, Mount Fortress, Tea House of Macao, and the Macao Grand Prix Museum, among others.

Strengthening cultural ties and diversifying visitor groups

The visit was an opportunity for the students to experience the rich history and cultural diversity of Macao. The Tea House of Macao organized a guided tour for the students to better understand the unique position of tea in the history of trade between China and the West, as well as Macao’s historical contribution as an important trading port.

Additionally, MGTO invited the startup company Zence Object Technology to share with the students the company’s concept, mission, and development process in the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao. During the visit, the company also showcased innovative and environmentally friendly products made from tea residue, demonstrating the applications of tea in the current generation, its relation to the concept of sustainable development, and the future opportunities it offers.

Promoting Macao as a tourism destination for Hong Kong students

The collaboration between the MGTO and SCMP aims to promote Macao as an attractive tourism destination for high school students in Hong Kong. By engaging the youth in this journey of discovery, the initiative seeks to strengthen cultural ties and promote a deeper understanding of Macao’s history and heritage.

The project also aims to diversify visitor groups and increase tourist flow to further strengthen the tourism industry in Macao.
