Biden vows that the Russian president will pay for the attacks on several cities in Ukraine

US President Joe Biden yesterday condemned the massive bombing of several cities in Ukraine and promised that his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, will be held accountable for the “atrocities” committed during the war.

“The United States strongly condemns today’s Russian missile attacks on Ukraine, including Kiev. These attacks killed and injured civilians and destroyed non-military infrastructure,” Biden said in a statement.

The US leader, who conveyed his condolences to the victims’ families, considered that these attacks “demonstrate once again the complete brutality of Putin’s illegal war against the Ukrainian people”.

“These attacks only reinforce our commitment to the people of Ukraine. Together with our allies, we will continue to impose sanctions on Russia for its aggression, we will continue to hold Putin and Russia accountable for their atrocities and war crimes, as well as provide necessary support to Ukraine,” the US President promised.

Shortly before, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had called his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba, to express his support in the face of today’s Russian attacks.

The large-scale Russian bombings launched today against several Ukrainian cities, including Kiev, caused numerous casualties and the destruction of important infrastructure, while the population seeks protection in shelters.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a message to the Ukrainian people, said that attacks in various regions of Ukraine are aimed at damaging energy infrastructure and causing casualties among the civilian population.

Russia carried out these military initiatives two days after an attack on a bridge linking Crimea to Russia, for which Moscow blames Kiev.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened to launch further attacks if Ukraine insists on committing “terrorist attacks” against Russia.

The military offensive launched on February 24 by Russia in Ukraine has already caused more than 13 million people to flee – more than six million internally displaced people and more than 7.5 million to European countries – according to the latest data from the UN, which ranks this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since the Second World War (1939-1945).

The Russian invasion – justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for the security of Russia – was condemned by the generality of the international community, which has responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and imposing it on Russia. of political and economic sanctions.
