China suspends direct flights with Portugal

The Chinese authorities announced this Saturday that they will suspend, for two weeks, the air connection between Portugal and China, which had already been suspended for a month, after detecting cases of Covid-19 on board.

In a statement posted on its official website, the Civil Aviation Administration of China reported that the flight between Lisbon and the Chinese city of Xi’an, operated by the airline Beijing Capital Airlines, will be suspended from July 25, for an additional period of two weeks, after five cases of Covid-19 were detected, on June 19, on a flight from Lisbon.

Flights to China are subject to the “circuit breaker” policy, in which when five or more cases are detected on board, the connection is suspended for two weeks. If there are ten or more cases, the call is suspended for one month.

The Portugal – China connection has a frequency of one flight per week.
