Diego Armando Maradona underwent surgery on Tuesday night (3) in Buenos Aires because of a hematoma in the brain. The current Gimnasia La Plata coach had an accumulated clot in the subdural region because of strokes, according to doctors. The surgery, at Clínica Olivos, lasted two hours.
“We were able to successfully evacuate this chronic hematoma. Diego endured the surgery very well. You are awake. Everything is fine, ”neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque told the press.
At the age of 60, Maradona was admitted to the Ipensa de La Plata clinic on Monday after feeling ill. A series of tests showed that the former midfielder has bruises to the head possibly caused by recent strokes. This type of head injury needs to be resolved quickly because the accumulated blood can put pressure on the brain. Therefore, the neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque decided to transfer him to the hospital in the Argentine capital.
