Urgent aid for Mozambique: UN asks 4.7 million to rescue conflict victims

The World Food Program (WFP) said it is concerned about the situation in Cabo Delgado, in northern Mozambique. The UN agency operates in the area, which suffers a humanitarian crisis after the intensification of violence in the region.

According to the WFP, without additional funding, the agency will have to reduce food distribution as early as December.

In a statement, the WFP representative in Mozambique, Antonella D’Aprile, said that the growing insecurity and deficient infrastructure make it difficult to get aid to the displaced. Stressing that with covid-19, the distribution of food has become even more complex.

Since 2017, Cabo Delgado has suffered from attacks by armed groups that have resulted in loss of life and severely damaged the province’s infrastructure.
