The candor of a concept: school autonomy

Alexandra Vieira*

As far as school management is concerned, at the time of adopting extraordinary measures because of the pandemic and the necessary return to school of all students, the word autonomy is propagated to the four winds in political discourse.

There is no memory of a word so important for the life of the educational communities that has been used to say so little and the question remains whether, effectively, on the part of the policy makers, there will be an effective notion of what the concept means. But there is the notion of the usefulness of its use as part of the strategy to involve and manipulate the educational actors in the return to classroom teaching, due to its enormous attractiveness – who does not want to be autonomous or who does not want their autonomy recognized?
