The covid-19 pandemic could throw an additional 130 million Africans into a situation of acute hunger, increasing the need for funding from humanitarian organizations, the chief economist of the UN World Food Program (WFP) warned this Thursday.

This estimate may double the number of people in dire need of food assistance, which currently affects 135 million people living in conflict or economic and political instability countries, to which are added about 821 million people in chronic hunger, completing a scenario of great food insecurity on the continent.
