UN warns of risk of food shortages

“Uncertainties about the availability of food may trigger a wave of export restrictions”, causing “shortages in the world market”, says a joint statement signed by the director-general of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, Chinese Qu Dongyu , the director general of the World Health Organization, the Ethiopian Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus , and the director general of the World Trade Organization, the Brazilian Roberto Azevedo. For the three multilateral organizations that deal with health, food and world trade, it is important to guarantee the maintenance of trade, “to avoid food shortages”.
