Simon Cowell will step away from “America’s Got Talent” for the next several weeks to undergo a routine back procedure, according to sources with direct knowledge who spoke to TMZ.
The sources say Cowell is scheduled for back surgery in the near future, a procedure that will keep him off the judges’ panel for the hit NBC show for multiple weeks. TMZ reports this is considered a routine operation, with no indication of any new or serious health concern. Cowell has dealt with back problems in the past, stemming from a serious electric bike accident in 2020 that also required surgery.

It remains unclear who will sit in for Cowell during his time away, or exactly when he’s expected to return to the judges’ table.
The 66-year-old British media mogul is widely known for his blunt judging style across “American Idol,” “The X Factor” and “America’s Got Talent.” Beyond his television career, Cowell has also played a key role in launching major music acts, including One Direction and Fifth Harmony, establishing himself as one of the most influential talent scouts in pop music.
