Real Madrid have completed the signing of Dutch international right-back Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan on a four-year contract, both clubs officially announced today. The move sees the defender link up with Portuguese manager José Mourinho ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Real Madrid confirmed that the 30-year-old full-back has committed to the club until June 30, 2030. Inter Milan, whom Dumfries represented for the past five seasons, noted that the Spanish giants secured the transfer by triggering the player’s formal release clause, bypassing traditional transfer negotiations.

While neither club publicly disclosed the exact financial terms of the buyout, widespread reports across Spanish and Italian sports media indicate that the release clause stood at €20 million. This figure is considered remarkably low by modern market standards, but it was reportedly a fixed condition agreed upon during the Dutchman’s final contract extension with the Nerazzurri.

The acquisition of Dumfries—much like the recent arrival of French center-back Ibrahima Konaté—was a core campaign promise of Florentino Pérez, who secured re-election as club president last month. The Madrid hierarchy moved swiftly to address long-standing vulnerabilities on the right side of their defense following the departure of club veteran Dani Carvajal and the recent performance inconsistencies of England international Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Dumfries arrives in the Spanish capital as the fourth major summer signing for José Mourinho, who took the Real Madrid hot seat after departing Benfica at the conclusion of last season. The Dutchman joins an overhauled defensive and midfield unit that already features Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella (signed from Chelsea), Portuguese playmaker Bernardo Silva (free transfer from Manchester City), and French center-back Ibrahima Konaté (free transfer from Liverpool)

The powerhouse full-back, who recently represented the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup, leaves Milan with an impressive resume. Over his 207 appearances for Inter, Dumfries tallied 27 goals and 28 assists, helping the club secure two Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia trophies, and three Italian Super Cups.
