Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel will retire from football at the end of the season, at age 39, due to a severe shoulder injury, announced the player today, who currently represents Scottish club Celtic.
“When my contract with Celtic ends in June, I will end my professional football career,” Schmeichel stated in declarations to Danish television station TV2.
The Danish international explained that the decision was made after consulting several specialists, who informed him that he would be unlikely to compete at the highest level again.
“It is not fun, it was not how I would have liked my career to end. But on the other hand, everything has an end,” he added.
