A delegation from the University of Barcelona, led by its rector, Joan Guàrdia Olmos, visited the University of Macau (UM), where it was received by the rector, Song Yonghua, and the vice-rector, Rui Martins. The visit aimed to strengthen the partnership between the two universities and promote new areas of academic and scientific cooperation.

During the meeting, Song Yonghua stated that the visit marks a new phase in cooperation between UM and leading European institutions, noting that strengthening ties with the University of Barcelona could create more opportunities for student and faculty exchanges, joint research, and international academic interaction.

The visit follows a trip by a UM delegation to the University of Barcelona in April of this year. The two parties resumed the discussions begun at that time, focusing primarily on training qualified personnel in priority areas such as information science and biomedical sciences.

The institutions also agreed to expand current student exchange programs and establish more stable and long-lasting cooperation mechanisms, including regular platforms for academic exchange.

At the Center for Research in Cognition and Brain Sciences, the deputy director of the Institute for Collaborative Innovation, Christian Montag, presented UM’s interdisciplinary advances in fields related to neuroscience, psychology, brain-inspired intelligence, and human-machine interaction.

The delegation from the University of Barcelona was particularly impressed by the scientific and technological infrastructure and the results achieved by the university in the emerging fields of innovation and interdisciplinary research, according to UM.

The Spanish delegation also included Vice Rector Raul Ramos Lobo, the head of the rector’s office, Ander Errasti Lopez, the director of internationalization and student affairs, Sergi Martinez Rigol, and the director of institutional relations and protocol, Lluna Baltasar Comellas.
