The death toll has risen to 19 following heavy rains in the Angolan province of Benguela, which caused the Cavaco River to overflow. There are also 11 people reported missing, the Civil Protection and Fire Service announced today.
The latest report, covering the period between Sunday and Tuesday, indicates that 3,624 people were evacuated from risk areas, while another 3,302 were left isolated.

As a result of the floods over the weekend, social infrastructure was affected, including sectors such as education, water, electricity, roads, bridges, and railways. More than 450 homes collapsed.
The provincial government of Benguela said in a statement that, due to the state of disaster in the municipality of Benguela—caused by the collapse of a protective dike on the left bank of the Cavaco River, between Camalonga and Seta—“extremely serious damage was recorded in several neighborhoods.”
