The construction of a pedestrian link between the East Line station of the Macau Light Rapid Transit (LRT) and the Border Gate checkpoint will cost MOP 464.7 million and was awarded through direct adjudication, without a public tender, according to the Public Works Bureau (DSOP).
According to Hoje Macau, the project was awarded to a consortium of three mainland Chinese companies: CCECC (Macau) China Civil Engineering and Construction Company Ltd., Nam Kwong Real Estate Development Company Ltd., and China Railway 16th Bureau Group Co. Ltd – Macau Representative Office.
The contract outlines a construction period of 960 days—more than two and a half years—for completion. The ES1 station of the East Line is located on the southeast side of the Border Gate checkpoint. The pedestrian link, measuring about 80 meters, aims to “facilitate movement” between the metro station and the border crossing.

According to DSOP, the access will be built in the current parking area for tourist buses at the Border Gate, using an elevated pedestrian walkway.
The use of direct adjudication and the high cost of the project have raised concerns, particularly as major infrastructure projects in Macau continue to be awarded without public tenders—a model that has sparked ongoing debate over transparency and public spending oversight.
