The President of the Republic of Angola stated today that the motivations behind colonialism in the past are the same that lead any superpower today to carry out military interventions, as happened in Iraq and now in Iran.
“Today, with the most varied arguments, but with the same objectives, those controlling the planet’s main energy sources, oil, gas, and critical and strategic minerals, carry out military interventions anywhere on the planet,” said João Lourenço at the 11th summit of Heads of State and Government of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OEACP).
At this summit, held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, Angola concludes its three-year term as president of the organization, transferring it to the host country.
“The world has turned into a jungle, where any superpower invokes a non-existent right under International Law, that of preventive attack, based only on the presumption that someone is preparing to attack and destroy me,” said the Angolan head of state, recalling the case of Iraq and now Iran.

He added: “We, the peoples of Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific, having lived through centuries of bitter experience, know that the same motivations that were at the root of colonialism, that of controlling and looting our wealth, unfortunately persist today in the 21st century.”
“We are an organization made up of 79 nations on this planet and must, therefore, ensure that we have an active voice and a role in addressing major global issues, so that our points of view are taken into account in seeking solutions to the serious problems that increasingly threaten world security and peace,” he defended.
At this Malabo summit, held under the theme “an OEACP transformed and renewed in a changing world,” Angola reviewed its leadership of the organization, “marked by transformations that leave the institution with solid foundations for future challenges.”
“We decided to abandon the previous model of aid-based partnership and established the foundations for a strategic partnership between regions that share global responsibilities and common objectives, in order to give consistency to the fundamental principle of a more balanced and dynamic multilateralism, which the world must follow to prevent conflicts that spread everywhere,” said João Lourenço.
From today, the President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, assumes the rotating presidency of the OEACP.
