Portuguese-Canadian singer Nelly Furtado will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame on March 29 during the 55th edition of the Juno Awards, the organisation announced.

The Canadian music awards ceremony marks more than two decades of the singer’s career, defined by international hits. The honour recognises her journey from the release of debut album “Whoa, Nelly!” (2000), which launched her onto the global stage with tracks such as “I’m Like a Bird.” Over the years, Furtado established herself as one of Canada’s most influential voices, with hits including “Promiscuous” and “Maneater,” winning multiple Juno, Grammy and Latin Grammy awards.

Born in Victoria, British Columbia, to Portuguese emigrants from the Azores, Furtado grew up in a bilingual cultural environment that shaped her artistic identity. Throughout her career she has incorporated multicultural references and collaborated with artists across genres from pop to hip-hop and Latin music.

During the Juno Awards broadcast, several Canadian artists will pay tribute with a medley of her songs, including Portuguese-Canadian Shawn Desman, Alessia Cara, Jully Black and Tanya Tagaq, joined by surprise guests, with musical direction by Furtado’s long-time collaborator Herag Sanbalian.

The organisation also announced the participation of new Toronto talents including Sofia Câmara — also Portuguese-Canadian — and Mico, both nominated for breakthrough artist or group of the year, alongside Cameron Whitcomb.

The ceremony will be hosted by Mae Martin, with guest presenters including Begonia, Billy Talent, Melanie Fiona and Canadian Olympic hockey players Sarah Nurse and Renata Fast. Part of the awards will be presented at the Juno Awards gala on March 28, with the main ceremony taking place the following day.
