The head of the Russian delegation, Rustem Umerov, revealed after the meeting that they first held joint talks and then switched to separate group discussions. Both the political and military working groups have completed their tasks, with the discussions focusing on “practical issues and mechanisms for implementing solutions.”
In addition, Ignazio Cassis, the vice president of the Swiss Confederation, attended the opening session; national security advisors from Germany, France, the UK, and Italy also arrived in Geneva, but it is not yet confirmed whether they will participate in the meeting.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused the Russians of launching a large-scale air raid on the day of the talks, deploying nearly 400 drones and firing 29 missiles, 25 of which were intercepted.
The US side had previously suggested that both sides cease air strikes, Zelensky has already instructed his delegation to raise questions on this matter with the US side. He reaffirmed that while Ukraine defends its sovereignty, it is also prepared to quickly reach substantive agreements to end the conflict.
