Sands China Ltd. presented a MOP 300,000 donation to the Macau Holy House of Mercy’s Welfare Shop Saturday and, together with Sands Cares Ambassadors, helped distribute Chinese New Year food hampers to disadvantaged local families as part of its 14th consecutive year of support for the Welfare Shop.
The initiative combines financial support and volunteer time to address short-term household needs ahead of the festive period.
The Welfare Shop has operated since 2013 and provides monthly relief supplies to several thousand households facing financial hardship.
This year’s food hampers included staple items such as rice, noodles, biscuits, canned food, cooking oil and daily essentials such as toothpaste and shower gel; each beneficiary household also received a festive gift pack purchased from Macau Tung Sin Tong Charitable Society.

A “God of Fortune” joined the distribution to share festive blessings with recipients.
Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd., presented the donation cheque to António José de Freitas, President of Macau Holy House of Mercy’s Board of Trustees, at the Welfare Shop and highlighted the company’s long-term community commitment. Dr. Wong said: “As the longest-established charitable organisation in Macao, Macau Holy House of Mercy has remained unwavering in its mission to support local disadvantaged groups and advance community welfare. Sands China has supported its community work for 14 consecutive years through our donations and distribution of food hampers. These initiatives extend our care and deepen our long-standing commitment to local community service. This year, we have distributed food hampers to more than 370 local families, sending our festive blessings and warmth to them ahead of Chinese New Year. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Macau Holy House of Mercy for their continued coordination and support, and to the Sands Cares Ambassadors for their participation and spirit of service. Looking ahead, we will continue working with local NGOs to building a warmer, more harmonious community in Macao.”
António José de Freitas, President of the Holy House of Mercy’s Board of Trustees, commented on the partnership’s impact: “Our sincere gratitude goes to Sands China for their unwavering support to our Welfare Shop over the past 14 years. Through this initiative, Sands China has demonstrated its dedication to the community by providing ongoing assistance to disadvantaged local families, spreading care to those in need. We look forward to deepening our collaboration in generating more positive impact into the community.”
The cheque presentation and distribution event were attended by community and union leaders and Sands China representatives, underscoring the public–private collaboration model that underpins recurring corporate support for social services.
Sands China’s contribution is part of its broader Sands Cares corporate citizenship programme, which prioritises sustained partnerships with local NGOs to support vulnerable groups and reinforce community resilience.
