The cage-fall accident occurred in a shaft at Canzhuang gold mine in Zhaoyuan City at around 8:50 a.m. Saturday. According to the municipal government of Zhaoyuan, the mining company failed to report the accident immediately after it occurred. The emergency management bureau of Zhaoyuan only verified the incident on Monday after receiving a tip-off.

Those under control include the mine’s manager, chief engineer and other management personnel. Investigations into the cause of the accident and the suspected concealment are underway.
