This initiative, in response to legislator Ho Ion Sang’s inquiry, aims to leverage the legacy of the National Games to enhance regional cooperation and promote the integration of sports and tourism, Ponto Final reported.
The government outlined its strategy to build on the success of the 15th National Games—co-organized by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau—held last November. The Sports Bureau (ID) committed to exploring more regional sports events and improving coordination across these regions to maximize resources.
Additionally, the Macau Government Tourism Office plans to enhance collaboration with relevant services to link major sports events with multi-destination tourism. The ID is also investigating the introduction of artificial intelligence in specialized training to support high-performance sports in Macau.
Regarding potential joint bids for international events like the Olympics, the ID will maintain communication with sports departments in mainland China and Hong Kong to assess cooperation opportunities. Overall, the government’s response emphasized the importance of the National Games in fostering ongoing cooperation and integrating Macau into the Greater Bay Area’s development.
