The project will commence immediately after the foundation and basement works, which are scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2025, and is expected to conclude structural construction by the end of 2027. Following this, it will be handed over to the Cultural Bureau for interior decoration.
The new library will be located at the old site of the Hotel Estoril, covering about 2,960 square meters. It will be four stories high with a basement, totaling an area of approximately 13,800 square meters, which is about ten times the size of the old facility.
In terms of design, the new Central Library is positioned as an “all-age intelligent library” that integrates reading, communication, learning, and leisure, and will be equipped with barrier-free facilities.
Additionally, to enhance access in the surrounding area, the project will include the construction of an open-air elevator connecting Fai Chi Kei Road and the Avenida de Kwong Wa, replacing the current single stairway to provide year-round convenience for citizens.
