Abandoned Beijing Imperial Palace Hotel to reopen as new brand in 2026

The long-abandoned Beijing Imperial Palace Hotel in Taipa, located next to Melco's Altira Hotel, has been renamed the Gold Coast Hotel and is poised for a grand reopening in the second quarter of 2026, representing the first significant development at this site since its closure nearly a decade ago

Previously known as the New Century Hotel, the five-star property once featured the notable Greek Mythology Casino, which ceased operations in late 2015 for renovations and was closed by authorities in 2016 due to safety concerns. Since then, the hotel has remained inactive, Asia Gaming Brief reported.

Recent activity suggests a new owner has taken over, with construction vehicles and signage related to Yoho Treasure Island Resorts World Hotel visible on-site.  While public filings confirm the name Gold Coast Hotel, details about its redevelopment, including its facilities and potential gaming options, are still undisclosed.

The casino suspended operations in late 2015 due to an order from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) for “interior renovation,” and the hotel itself was shut down by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) in July 2016 over safety and management issues, with its license officially returned to the authorities in early 2017.
