The spokesperson of the European Union External Action Service (EUEAS) condemned the arrest of Au, who has been placed under preventive detention over alleged violations of the SAR’s national security law.
The Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macau SAR expressed “strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition” over Brussels’ statement and called on the EU to “immediately stop making irresponsible remarks about Macau affairs”. “Strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition” were also the expressions used by the Macau SAR Government in a separate statement released on Saturday evening.
