According to a May 12 press release, the ceremony was attended by Ma Iao Hang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM), along with CAM’s executive committee members, department heads, and representatives from the expansion and reclamation working group. Also present were key contractors, including China Harbour Engineering Company Limited, Northwest Civil Aviation Airport Construction Group Co., Ltd, and Ming Shun Construction and Property Investment Limited. Officials from project management, supervision, quality control, and quantity surveying units also participated in the event.
With preparatory work now complete, on-site construction for Phase I of the expansion has officially begun. The phase is expected to take 1,977 calendar days, targeting completion by the end of 2030.
Upon full completion, the project will expand MIA’s total usable area to 325 hectares and double its annual passenger handling capacity—from 7.7 million in 2024 to 15 million passengers.
