The R$ 28.6 million ($5 million) in fines imposed on the social network X by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes were transferred by Caixa Econômica Federal to Banco do Brasil.
The move is a result of Moraes’ order, who stated on Friday (4th) that the payment had been made to the wrong account, requesting that the deposit be corrected.
The transfer clears the way for Elon Musk’s network to be accessible in Brazil again.
The Supreme Court has confirmed that the funds are in the correct account, and the case has been sent to the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) for review. After the PGR’s opinion, Moraes will evaluate the unblocking request.
The network’s lawyers said that X “was never notified to make the payment through a deposit” at Banco do Brasil, and that it was instructed by the court to make the deposit at Caixa. They referred to the transfer to Banco do Brasil as a “mere administrative procedure.”
