Grand Prix Museum showcases the history of the event

Special exhibition of the “Memories Collection Competition for the 70th Anniversary of the Macau Grand Prix” presents the evolution of the Macau Grand Prix.

The prize-giving ceremony of the “Memories Collection Competition for the 70th Anniversary of the Macau Grand Prix” took place today (9th) at the Macau Grand Prix Museum. The award-winning items are also on display at the museum from today until the end of January next year.

On the other hand, the exclusive store for selling souvenirs at the Macau Grand Prix Museum was opened today with a new look. By carrying out a series of special activities, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) intends to prolong the lively atmosphere of the Macau Grand Prix (GPM) month, to celebrate the 70th edition of the event with the public.

Value history and embrace the future

The “Memories Collection Competition for the 70th Anniversary of the Macau Grand Prix” took place between July and September this year. During this period, four types of objects were collected relating to the Macau Grand Prix, from 1954 to 2022, including entry tickets, posters, philatelic products and commemorative objects.

Among the 44 articles received, the jury selected 29 to be awarded, according to the criteria of rarity, degree of integrity, clarity and compliance with the theme.

All objects from the competition, together with items from the museum’s collection, including helmets and pilot suits, among others, in a total of around 70 objects, will be on display to the public at the Macau Grand Prix Museum on 9 November from 2023 to 31 January 2024, to share collective memory and witness the changes of the event.

The competition’s awards ceremony was attended by the president of the Sports Institute, Pun Weng Kun, the deputy director of the MGTO, Ricky Hoi, the member of the board of directors of the Automobile General Association Macao-China, Lei Chi Leong, among other guests.

In a speech given at the ceremony, the deputy director of the MGTO, Ricky Hoi, said that the Macau Grand Prix is an emblematic event, which has a close relationship with everyone, being an integral part of Macau.

Following the competition to collect photographs about past editions of the Macau Grand Prix launched last year, several objects with great historical value were collected in this year’s competition, which testify to parts of the memory and history of the event, including a special publication from the 7th Macau Grand Prix in 1960 and coins commemorating the 25th anniversary of the event.

Exclusive store for selling souvenirs welcomes visitors with a new look

The exclusive store for selling souvenirs, which opened at the same time as the Macau Grand Prix Museum, was opened today with a new look. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by the deputy director of the MGTO, Ricky Hoi, the executive director of Macau Creations, Wilson Lam, and guests from other areas such as culture, education and commerce. The exclusive souvenir shop designs and sells items related to the Macau Grand Prix Museum, the Macau Grand Prix, tourism, Macau history and culture.

In addition to tourist souvenirs, daily use items, exquisite stationery, there are also products for sale from the 70th Macau Grand Prix, a series of clothing items “Made in Macau and Designed in Macau” especially for the museum, with aimed at reinforcing the vitality and diversity of the exclusive store for selling souvenirs and creating branded products characteristic of the Macau Grand Prix Museum.

Special museum activities to celebrate its 70th anniversary

The various special activities of the Macau Grand Prix Museum launched from November onwards include: “70 Legendary Years of the Macau Grand Prix” video; special exhibition of the top Formula 1 team, Oracle Red Bull Racing; special exhibition of the Collection of Memories for the 70th Anniversary of the Macau Grand Prix; and offering discounts when purchasing tickets at the museum gate with designated credit cards.

The museum’s opening hours during the six days of GPM competitions (11, 12, 16, 17, 18 and 19 November) will be extended until 9:30 pm (ticket sales close at 9 pm), to liven up the cultural atmosphere around the GPM in line with the 70th Macau Grand Prix.

Since its reopening in 2021, the Macau Grand Prix Museum has continuously enriched its collection and simultaneously developed the intersectoral integration of “tourism + sport”, to enrich the diversity of visitors’ tourist experiences.
