Lei also mentioned that in addition to recruiting healthcare professionals, Peking Union Medical College Hospital – the entity responsible for the Islands Healthcare Complex – will also send managers and experienced doctors to Macau.
The official explained that the government of the Macau Special Administrative Region completed the construction of the islands’ hospital facilities this year and will be progressively opened in December.
The hospital will have more than 800 beds and more than 300 beds in rehabilitation facilities, a
s well as serving as a medical training base and a medical research center, providing high-quality healthcare services and more options for citizens.Lei also highlighted that one of the main characteristics of the island’s hospital is the combination of public services and private market operation, making its operation more flexible.
In the first phase, the focus will be on public services, including specialized consultations and health management, as well as the introduction of advanced medical equipment, with the aim of quickly starting integrated medical oncology services.
The director stressed that the hospital on the island will follow a complementary development model in relation to other hospitals in Macau, avoiding competing with public or private hospitals in Macau for patients.
In addition, it is expected to attract patients from nearby areas who are willing to pay for health services on the island, which could alleviate hospital costs.
