Covid-19 may have originated in a laboratory in Wuhan, admits FBI

“For some time, the FBI has assessed that the origins of the pandemic are likely a possible laboratory incident in Wuhan,” Wray said, speaking to “Fox News”, adding that he cannot share many details of the agency’s assessment because they are confidential.

The FBI director accused the Chinese government of “doing everything possible to try to thwart and obfuscate” efforts by the US and other countries to learn more about the origins of the pandemic.

The statement comes after the “Wall Street Journal” reported on Sunday that the US Department of Energy concluded, albeit with low confidence, that the pandemic resulted from an unintentional leak from a laboratory in China. Four other agencies, along with a national information panel, still consider that the pandemic resulted from natural transmission between animals and humans, possibly in the Wuhan market. Two agencies have yet to come to a conclusion.

On Monday, White House national security spokesman John Kirby said the US government had not reached a consensus on the origins of the pandemic.
