Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday bestowed a state decoration on Steven Seagal, the American action film actor who also has Russian citizenship.
The Order of Friendship, whose award was announced on the Russian government’s internet portal, recognizes people whom Russia considers to have contributed to improving international relations.
Steven Seagal was a vocal supporter of Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea, and last year he visited the Russian-controlled Ukrainian town of Olenivka, where Ukrainian prisoners of war died in an attack for which Russia and Ukraine blamed each other.
