Portugal’s prime minister, António Costa, has said that, despite facing some “very difficult moments”, his Socialist government has always managed to ensure stability and solid public finances in its time in office.
“We have always ensured the stability of policies,” said Costa, speaking in Lisbon after announcing a reshuffle following the resignation of one of his key ministers.
Despite experiencing “several very demanding moments,” he said government has also always ensured a “trajectory of right accounts.”
Costa spoke some two hours after a government reshuffle to replace Pedro Nuno Santos, the outgoing minister of infrastructure and housing, was announced.
The prime minister chose João Galamba and Marina Gonçalves, currently secretaries of state in the government, as minister of infrastructure and minister of housing, respectively.
The move, which has since been accepted by Portugal’s president, serves to separate the infrastructure and housing portfolios, which until now were under one minister, namely Santos.
