Former surgeon Joël Le Scouarnec, 70, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the sexual abuse of 349 children in France, including their nieces. He was arrested in 2017. The information is from the Extra newspaper.
The conviction came after the police discovered several diaries where he described intimate scenes with several children. The president of the court in the Saintes commune, Isabelle Fachaux, said the former surgeon continued to commit the crimes after he was reported in 2005.
Joël’s defense said he asked for the “right to be a better man again”, but that “he knows that what he did is unforgivable”.
