Transgender candidates achieve historic result in elections in Brazil

Several  transgender candidates obtained historic results in Sunday’s municipal elections in the main cities of Brazil, where for the first time they were allowed to present themselves with their social names.

In São Paulo, the largest metropolis in the country, two  transgender are among the ten most voted candidates for the City Council.

Erika Hilton, from PSOL, took sixth place with 50,477 votes, becoming the first black  transgender elected councilor in the economic capital of Brazil.

“We won! It’s a historic debut! ”, Celebrated Hilton on Twitter.

Thammy Miranda, son of singer Gretchen, got the ninth best vote (43,297 votes).
