This year the Federal Police will use an intelligence system to specifically detect the existence of applications for oranges. The program will automatically cross-check data between the number of candidates’ votes and the amount of funds received. In 2018, parties were accused of embezzling money from women to men or for other purposes, circumventing the female quota. This year, the suspicion is that the practice may also reach black candidates. One of the main cases, revealed by Folha, was that of the Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio (PSL-MG), who was indicted and denounced by the scheme.
