Macau inaugurated today the border post on the island of Hengqin, a strategic step for the development of the territory and integration into the global development of China, said the head of the Government
“First, it opened a new chapter in the development of cooperation with [the Chinese province of] Guangdong” from the ‘expansion’ of Macau to Hengqin, “an important strategic decision by the central government to support the development” of the formerly administered territory by Portugal, stressed Ho Iat Seng.
“There is no doubt that Hengqin is the best platform for Macau to participate in the construction of the Greater Bay Area (…) and to integrate into the country’s global development,” he said.
The official added that the opening of the new border post “will not only facilitate the exchange of people and goods between the two places, but will also attract Macau residents to work, invest and live in Hengqin, and promote integration and development, (… ) people’s livelihood and the economy ”, in an area that seeks to assume free trade with tax reductions and exemptions.
