African woman

Kâmia Madeira*

Gone are the days of Nzinga Mbande, Deolinda Rodrigues or Belita Palma historical references, the first our intrepid queen, the second the combatant who fought for an ideal and Belita who moved us with her voice.

Women of strength and who have marked the imagination of some generations, I feel embarrassed when writing it, but I doubt whether girls today know who they are and what they represent, immersed that we are in a slump in which singers and people sometimes of good repute doubtful, our screens are swarming with airtime that I consider excessive….

I am asked what it is like to be a woman in Africa today and what it should be like?
