Hong Kong authorities announced on Thursday, without notice, the closure of karaoke establishments, mahjong rooms and nightclubs.
The announcement coincided with the news of another 51 cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number to 765 cases in the territory.
Most of the new cases were identified as imported cases, writes the South China Morning Post (SCMP), which reports on the Hong Kong government’s decision.
The newspaper is surprised that, however, the government has allowed establishments such as beauty salons, massage therapists and restaurants to remain open. And that in the first case, treatments without protective masks can be continued, under the argument that some customers will attend beauty salons for face treatments, a spokesman for the Hong Kong executive told SCMP.
Anyone who disrespects the new restrictions is subject to a prison sentence of up to six months and a fine equivalent to $ 6500.
In Hong Kong, gyms, cinemas and saunas, among other establishments, are already closed.
