Zaire Wade, the eldest son of NBA Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade, entered a plea of not guilty to a felony charge of domestic violence during his arraignment in Pasadena on Thursday.
Wade appeared in court dressed in a gray three-piece suit and a pink tie. The charges stem from a physical altercation that occurred last month in Burbank, California, involving a woman he was dating. During the proceeding, the judge ordered Wade to maintain a distance of at least 100 yards from the unidentified victim, the NY Post reports.
He was also instructed to sign a declaration confirming he does not possess additional firearms, following the confiscation of a handgun from his residence by law enforcement after the incident.
The court scheduled a preliminary hearing for September 24, to which Wade consented. Outside the courtroom, defense attorney Kevin Moghtanei stated that his client denies the allegations but declined to comment on whether any other firearms were present at Wade’s home.

The legal trouble began around 5:30 a.m. on June 21, when Burbank police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a woman screaming. Upon arrival, officers discovered Wade and a woman who had sustained cuts and lacerations to her face and body.
While paramedics assessed the woman’s injuries at the scene, she was not hospitalized. Police seized a handgun from the home and issued an emergency protective order. Wade was arrested and subsequently released later that day after posting a $50,000 bond.
The elder Dwyane Wade, a three-time NBA champion who was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, has not released any public statements regarding his son’s arrest. Years prior to the legal incident, the younger Wade was a teammate of LeBron James’ son, Bronny James, during the 2019–2020 high school basketball season at Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth.
