United States President Donald Trump threatened today to “pulverize” Oman, an ally of his country, apparently confusing the Arabian Peninsula sultanate with Iran.
During the same public intervention, following a cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump also confused Iran with Venezuela.
“Oman will behave just like everybody else, or we’ll have to blow ’em up,” the American head of State asserted.
Trump was questioned about a possible future control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz by Oman and Iran, a scenario he rejected, assuring that the maritime route will remain “open to everybody.”

“It’s international waters. We’re going to watch over it, but nobody’s going to control it,” he assured.
The 79-year-old billionaire also declared during the cabinet meeting, which was broadcast on television, that the U.S. economy remains prosperous “despite the conflict with Venezuela, which no longer has a navy, which no longer has an air force.”
Trump generally uses this description of a militarily annihilated country when referring to Iran.
On other occasions in the past, Trump has confused country names, mentioning Albania instead of Armenia, for instance, or Iceland instead of Greenland.
