Goalkeeper João Afonso has become FC Porto’s first signing for the 2026/27 season, arriving from Santa Clara in a transfer deal worth 1.5 million euros, the reigning Portuguese football champions announced today.
In an official statement published on their website, the Dragons confirmed they reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of the player’s sporting rights and 80% of his economic rights. The initial fixed fee can increase by an additional 500,000 euros in performance-based variables if specific objectives are met during his tenure.

As part of the structured agreement, FC Porto retains a future option to purchase the remaining 20% of the economic rights for an additional two million euros. The highly rated 19-year-old goalkeeper has committed to a long-term contract with the club running until June 30, 2031. To protect their investment in the young prospect, FC Porto has anchored the long-term deal with a standard release clause set at 30 million euros.
