Brazilian restaurants Evvai and Tuju, both located in São Paulo, have become the first in Latin America to receive three stars in the Michelin Guide, according to the 2026 edition presented this week.

The announcement, made on Monday at the Copacabana Palace, marks Brazil as the first Latin American country to achieve the guide’s highest distinction.

The publication said the restaurants “have reached a true milestone for Brazilian and Latin American gastronomy” and now stand as “global benchmarks.”

Evvai, led by chef Luiz Filipe Souza, blends Brazilian and Italian influences, with a strong focus on technical mastery of temperature as a key element of texture.

Its tasting menu, called Oriundi, is accompanied by original illustrations by the chef to help narrate each dish.

Meanwhile, Tuju, headed by chef Ivan Ralston, is housed in a three-story building offering an immersive dining experience with an open kitchen.

The restaurant features a seasonal tasting menu using Brazilian ingredients and modern techniques to reinterpret the changing seasons.

This year’s selection also included 12 new Brazilian restaurants, among them the newly awarded one-star Madame Olympe, run by chefs Claude Troisgros and Jéssica Trindade, located in Rio de Janeiro.
