Domestic tourism in China is surging ahead of the Qingming Festival, with Macau ranking among the most popular destinations for travelers.
According to Fliggy, the online travel platform owned by Alibaba Group, bookings have risen sharply ahead of the holiday period, which runs from April 4 to 6.
“Macau is currently one of the fastest-growing destinations for the Qingming holiday. Hotel and flight bookings are rising, while reservations for travel and leisure products—including tour packages, private driver services, and attraction tickets—have more than doubled year-on-year,” the company said.
Across China, domestic travel trends are leading the surge, with hotel bookings up 40% year-on-year and ticket sales for tourist attractions increasing by more than 70%.

Macau, along with longer-distance destinations such as Hainan, Xinjiang, Yunnan, and Tibet, recorded growth exceeding 100%, consolidating their appeal during the holiday period.
Major urban centers including Beijing, Guangzhou, and Chengdu continue to lead in bookings, although lesser-known destinations are also gaining traction.
Travel package purchases on the platform rose 72% in March, while searches for “flower viewing” and “spring outings” surged nearly 380% compared to the previous month. Cities such as Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Wuhan are hosting themed flower festivals to attract visitors.
Outbound travel is also increasing, with spending on leisure activities—ranging from boat trips to helicopter tours—rising 120% year-on-year. Short-haul destinations within four hours’ flight time, including South Korea, Thailand, and Singapore, remain especially popular.
