Fuel prices in Cape Verde will increase by an average of 5% in April, following the suspension of the automatic pricing mechanism, the ARME announced.

Gasoline will now cost 139.89 escudos (€1.27) per liter, diesel 117.52 escudos (€1.07), and a 12.5 kg butane gas cylinder 1,804 escudos (€16.38).

According to ARME, price increases would have been significantly higher without a government resolution that temporarily suspends automatic price adjustments and caps increases between 2% and 8% until June.

The resolution, published earlier this week, also introduces measures to ensure fuel supply in case of disruptions. These include prioritizing distribution to essential services, electricity production, and key economic sectors.

The measures will remain in effect until June 30, with the possibility of revision depending on international price trends and domestic market conditions.

The government justified the decision by citing volatility and rising global fuel prices, linked to geopolitical tensions, aiming to limit the impact on the cost of living, the economy, and the energy system.

As Cape Verde relies entirely on imported fuel, domestic prices closely follow international market trends. Fuel price caps continue to be set on a monthly basis by ARME.
