A 20-year-old student from Macau is in serious condition after being struck by a bus last Thursday night on the campus of Chang Gung University in Taoyuan, Taiwan.
The accident occurred around 10:20 p.m. as the young man was crossing a crosswalk within the university campus. As a result of the collision, he suffered serious injuries, particularly to his lower limbs, and underwent surgery. He currently remains hospitalized in the intensive care unit under medical observation.
According to local media, the 54-year-old bus driver tested negative for alcohol and claimed he did not see the student while making a left turn. The driver has since been referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and faces charges of negligence. Taiwanese police authorities have indicated that the causes of the accident remain under investigation.

The bus operator, Sam Chung, expressed regret over the incident and agreed to cover any compensation, noting, however, that the driver had not fully followed safety procedures prior to the maneuver.
The case is being monitored by Macau authorities. The Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) has already contacted the student’s family, while the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is also monitoring the situation.
